To save WhatsApp photos in the gallery of your smartphone, two options are available to you: either you activate theautomatic recordingwhich is often already predefined, in the WhatsApp folder of your mobile device, or you proceed manually via the share option of media.

WhatsApp on Android: enable automatic saving of images
Note
Whether on Android or iPhone, this setting is generally already activated by default.
Step 1: in WhatsApp, select at the top right the three point buttonThen » Settings » and finally « Data usage and storage « .
Step 2: check the option “ Automatic media download » and adjust it according to your preferences to enable automatic downloading of photos and videos when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network or mobile data.
Step 3: then go back to “Settings” and select “ Discussions « . Check the option “ Media Visibility « . If enabled, WhatsApp images you receive will automatically be saved and visible in a “WhatsApp Images” album in your Gallery app.


Note
You can also choose which people or groups whose WhatsApp images will be automatically saved to your gallery. To do this, open the chat, tap the name of your interlocutor at the top of the screen, then select “Media visibility”. If media from this chat should not be saved to your gallery, select “No”.
WhatsApp on Android: manually save photos
Step 1: If you want to save a WhatsApp photo that someone sent you, tap it in the corresponding chat to open it in full screen.
Step 2: select the option “ Save to gallery « . Once the photo is saved, it should automatically appear in your Photos app, under a folder like « WhatsApp Images. » If you have Google Photos syncing enabled, the photo will automatically upload to your Google Photos account.

WhatsApp on iPhone: enable automatic saving of images
Step 1: To automatically backup your photos, you must first give permission in WhatsApp. To do this, access the “ Settings » at the bottom right of your application.
Step 2: then select “Discussions” and activate the button “ Save (Photos) » (possibly also “Save to Photos”).


Step 3: Now you can find a folder named “WhatsApp” in your iPhone’s Photos app. All photos sent to you on WhatsApp are now placed in this folder.
Step 4: Additionally, you can define for each of your chats whether you want to save all received media or none. To do this, simply click on the name of your interlocutor or your group at the top of the chat, then on “ Save (Photos) « .
Step 5: You are now offered three options. “ By default » is based on the decision you made in the settings. With » Always « , all WhatsApp photos you receive in this chat are saved. With » Never « , there is no backup. This feature is handy if you want to decide individually for each photo whether you want to save it.
WhatsApp on iPhone: manually save photos
Step 1: If you have a specific WhatsApp image in a chat that you want to save to your device, start by tapping on it.
Step 2: the image is then displayed larger on your screen. Select the share icon at the bottom left.
Step 3: A new window now presents you with several different options. Tap “ Save » and the image will be saved on your iPhone in the Photos app.


Once your WhatsApp photos are saved on your smartphone, you have the option to edit or print them. But you can also save your photos permanently using storage media such as Cloud storage, memory cards, external hard drives or the internal one of your PC or laptop.
