Want to enable JavaScript in Firefox? This works via the file config of your browser. Since you might inadvertently change other settings, which could potentially affect the proper functioning of the browser, we recommend that you follow our step-by-step instructions to enable JavaScript.

  1. Start by launching Firefox.
  2. Enter about:config in your browser's search bar and confirm with the « Enter » key to open the settings.
  3. You may see a warning message first, telling you that changing your settings may negatively impact your browser's performance and security. If you don't want to see this message again, uncheck the box by clicking on it. Then click « Accept the risk and continue » to continue.
If you run the about:config command, a warning message appears.
  1. A new page will open with a search box just below the address bar. In this search box, enter the query javascript.enabled.
  2. Various options are already displayed while you are typing. When you have entered the search term in full, there should only be one line left, with « javascript.enabled » on the left and the Boolean value « true » or « false » in the middle. If « true », JavaScript is currently enabled, if « false », it is disabled.

If you want to change the value and enable or disable JavaScript in Firefox, click the icon on the right showing two arrows pointing in different directions.

You can enable JavaScript by setting the boolean value to true.
  1. Finally, restart your browser. Your change is now automatically taken into account and JavaScript is successfully enabled or disabled.

Why enable JavaScript in Firefox?

JavaScript is a scripting language used by browsers to display various dynamic content on websites. It is enabled by default in most modern browsers because many interactive elements of sites, such as videos, updates, ads, drop-down menus, and dialog boxes, rely on it to function properly. Additionally, some data is stored and retrieved through JavaScript. Therefore, it is generally recommended to enable JavaScript in Firefox to optimize the browsing experience.
