Many macOS and iPhone users rely on Safari. Apple's web browser also supports JavaScript and enable scripting language by default. If for some reason the language is disabled or you want to prevent it (temporarily), you can manually enable or disable JavaScript for Safari. To do this, go to the settings. We explain the different steps to follow:

  1. First, open Safari on your computer.
  2. At the very top of the menu bar, to the right of the apple symbol, click “Safari” to open the drop-down menu.
  3. Select “Preferences”.
Click on “Safari” at the top left to access settings.
  1. A new window will then open. Click on the “Security” tab.
  2. There you will find the option « Enable JavaScript ». If you check this box, the scripting language is enabled. If you do not check this box, JavaScript will be disabled.
Check the “Enable JavaScript” box if you want to use the scripting language.
  1. Close the window and restart the browser. Your setting is now taken into account.

If you want to enable JavaScript for Safari on iPhone, follow these steps:

  1. First open the settings on your smartphone and select “Safari”.
  2. At the very bottom of the menu, you will find “Advanced”. Tap on this option.
  3. There you will find the “JavaScript” point. Tap the slider to enable or disable the scripting language. If the language is enabled, the button is highlighted in green and the switch slides to the right. If you disable the scripting language, the button is on the left and the area is grayed out.

Is JavaScript scripting language important for Safari?

JavaScript is a browser-side scripting language used by many websites. This language is often required, especially when dynamic content must be integrated and displayedand that's why it's enabled by default in all common browsers. If you decide to manually disable JavaScript, many websites may no longer display correctly. This particularly concerns content such as videos, ads, dialogs or timelines, which update automatically.
