Register your website on Google: step-by-step guide
For owners of professional projects on the Internet, appearing in Google search results is essential to the success of an online business. If you would like your site to be added to the database, you have two options:
- Wait for the crawler of the search engine discovers your project thanks to external links.
- Take charge of indexing by registering your own home page.
To register your site on Google, all you need is a Google account and your project URL. Registration is done in three simple steps and only takes a few minutes.
Step 1: Create a Google Account
Open the Google home page and create a free user account (Login > Create an account). Google will then guide you through the registration process. Skip this step if you have already created a Google account.
Step 2: Access Google Search Console
Open Google Search Console via the following address:
https://search.google.com/search-console/about
Log in with the previously created Google account.
Step 3: Provide the URL
In the left sidebar, click “ Add a property » to register your website. Then enter the full URL of your site in the field provided, then click on “ Following » to submit your indexing request to Google.

Step 4: Confirm Domain Ownership
At this step, you must confirm that the domain belongs to you. The exact procedure depends on your domain provider. If a guided installation process is available, Search Console automatically selects it.

You will then be redirected to your customer area, where you will log in as usual with your credentials. Once successfully logged in, click “ Connect ”, then on “ Authorize » in the next window so that Google can access your domain.
After a short verification, domain ownership is confirmed and a success notification is displayed.

Step 5: Submit the sitemap to Google
Websites are constantly evolving. Even if Google regularly analyzes your domain after registration, a sitemap allows you to inform the crawling system of new pages and updates. It also provides metadata that helps crawlers detect changes and errors more quickly. Once your website is registered, you can request indexing of your sitemap in two ways:
-
Open your file robots.txt and add the following statement wherever you want:
Sitemap: https://www.ionos.fr/domaine/noms-de-domaine.xml -
Submit your sitemap directly through Search Console by creating a sitemaps report for your property.
What are the chances of success of a manual indexing request?
When a request is submitted, Google clarifies that submitted URLs are not automatically added to the search index. However, the transmitted addresses are generally explored by the robots in the following days, then evaluated according to their relevance. If your website complies with the Google Search Basicsits indexing should not pose any problem.
To check if your URL is already listed on Google, perform a site query by entering the following command in the search bar:
site:www.votredomaine.fr
The Google search operator site Allows you to display all indexed URLs for a domain in search results. If the query does not return any results despite your request for indexing, check if a technical problem is preventing indexing. Common causes include a file robots.txt blocking, the HTML tag noindex or a misconfigured canonical tag.
In summary: accelerate indexing to strengthen visibility on Google
Visibility on the web, especially on Google, is essential to ensure the success of your website. You can certainly wait for search engine bots to automatically index your project's URLs, but this can take time, especially for small sites. Since manual registration requires little effort, it is advisable to manage indexing yourself to quickly improve your site's visibility on the web.
