For operating systems, you can choose between Microsoft (Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016) and applications linux (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, OpenSUSE). The “SteamCMD” server software, with which you can also use other dedicated servers such as a CS:GO server, is technically also available for macOS, but problems often occur during installation on Apple’s iOS system .
Your operating system will also use resources on your server. For a Windows-Server 2016, as an example, Microsoft released the following minimum system requirements:
- 1.4 GHz (64-bit) processor
- 512 MB or 2 GB of RAM (respectively with and without graphical user interface)
- 32 GB of hard disk space
For the installation of the famous Linux distribution Ubuntudeveloper Canonical recommends the following minimum values (version 20.04):
- 2GHz (64-bit) processor
- 4GB RAM
- 25 GB hard disk space
The significantly lighter Ubuntu Server Edition (without graphical user interface), alternatively, already runs with a 1 GHz (64-bit) processor, 1 GB RAM and 2.5 GB of hard disk space.
