The Steam ID is useful, among other things, for various account administration tasks, certain whitelists and even to determine the value of the account. To find an individual Steam ID, it is possible to go through the application itself, its browser or an external tool.

- Click on your username in the menu;
- Select « View my profile »;

What is the Steam ID and what is it for?¶
The Internet distribution platform Steam has, according to its own information, more than a billion active accounts. Each of them is distinguished by its own unique Steam ID : a 17-digit, 64-bit identifier that few know about. This identifier can be used, for example, to determine the value of the Steam account. Identification can also be important for various administrative tasks and for whitelisting.

Find your Steam ID in the application¶
If you’re looking for your Steam ID through the app, here’s how:
- Open Steam;
- Go to your Account Menu. Click on Your username top right ;
- In the drop-down menu, click on the “Show profile” line;
- Right-click anywhere on the page and choose » View source code in the contextual menu, or “Page source code”;
- The source code is then displayed in an editor. The easiest way to find the Steam ID now is to use the search function. To open it, use the Windows keyboard shortcut [Ctrl] + [F]or on Mac the Mac keyboard shortcut [Cmd] + [F]. In the search window, type the search term « steamid » and confirm with [Entrée]. Your Steam ID is next to the highlighted « g_steamID ».
Find your Steam ID from the browser¶
You can also find your Steam ID via your browser, here’s how:
- Open Steam in your browser and log in with your credentials;
- Click on your nickname and select » Display Profil » in the drop-down menu;
- On the Profile page, the Steam ID is at the top of the address bar: it’s the** series of numbers after « /profiles »**.
The described method, however, only works if you have not already defined an individual profile URL. If so, you’ll have to dig a little deeper to find your Steam ID. When the profile URL is displayed, do the following:
- Copy your URL and paste it into your browser’s address bar;
- Now write the following combination of letters after your URL: **?xml=1 **;
- Press on [Entrée] ;
- An XML file opens with your Steam ID as
at the line .
Find your Steam ID with a dedicated tool¶
Both methods shown above should work without issue. It is also possible to find your Steam ID using an online tool: steamid.io is not published by Valve directly but still allows access to the Steam ID. Enter your nickname in the search bar and the site will show you the corresponding Steam ID.
Can a Steam ID be changed?¶
Once assigned, the Steam ID will remain indefinitely linked to the profile. It is not possible to change the Steam ID or account name later. Steam itself cannot modify these two pieces of information either. It is only possible to change the profile name at any time.
