For operating systems, you can choose between Microsoft (Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016) and applications linux (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, OpenSUSE). The « SteamCMD » server software, with which you can also use other dedicated servers such as a CS:GO server, is technically also available for macOS, but problems often occur during installation on Apple’s iOS system .
Your operating system will also use resources on your server. For a Windows-Server 2016, as an example, Microsoft released the following minimum system requirements:
- 1.4 GHz (64-bit) processor
- 512 MB or 2 GB of RAM (respectively with and without graphical user interface)
- 32 GB of hard disk space
For the installation of the famous Linux distribution Ubuntudeveloper Canonical recommends the following minimum values (version 20.04):
- 2GHz (64-bit) processor
- 4GB RAM
- 25 GB hard disk space
The significantly lighter Ubuntu Server Edition (without graphical user interface), alternatively, already runs with a 1 GHz (64-bit) processor, 1 GB RAM and 2.5 GB of hard disk space.
