If the error occurs as part of an update or upgrade, try resetting the update components. First start the command prompt as administrator with [Windows] + [R]type the command « cmd », then press [Ctrl] + [Maj] + [Entrée].
Step 1 : Enter the following commands one after the other and press [Entrée] after each command:
- net stop wuauserv
- net stop cryptSvc
- net stop bits
- net stop msiserver
- ren C:\Windows\\SoftwareDistributionSoftwareDistribution.old
- ren C:\Windows\System32\\catroot2 Catroot2.old
2nd step : then re-enable the Windows Update components you just disabled. Enter the following command lines and press [Entrée] after each command:
- net start wuauserv
- net start cryptSvc
- net start bits
- net start msiserver
Step 3: restart your computer and try the update or upgrade again.
If none of these solutions should work, you can also restore the system to a previous save point. To do this, however, you will need to have the automatic creation of restore points enabled. To do this, go to Properties and System > System Protection > System Restore. If the error strongly affects your system, you can reset Windows 10 or reset Windows 11 as a last resort. However, remember that all your data, programs and custom settings will be overwritten. This is why we advise you to make a backup of your important files first.
