It is certainly important to update Joomla, however switching to a new version of Joomla after an update can sometimes cause some problems and does not always work from the start as expected. When a new Joomla update is released, especially a major update, then it may happen that some plugins are no longer supported or cause problems.
Before starting the update, it is therefore important to make a backup of Joomla in order to keep the current state of your web project. This way, if you have backup copies of all the project files on your web space as well as the integrated databases, you are sure to be able to restore the initial state at any time.
