Create a podcast: a step-by-step guide


The podcast is ready and the first episodes are uploaded to the host. Lo and behold, they appear on streaming platforms. But what to do now? How will users discover your new podcast?

You will be required to advertise, but it does not necessarily have to be paid for. Paid advertising can certainly be an effective marketing tool to attract more audiences, however, it is not necessary when launching a new podcast. Word of mouth is much more useful, and above all it is completely free! For example, you can share your podcast project in advance with your friends, co-workers and family. If it’s well-received, they’ll likely automatically share your podcast with other people.

Since you have already thought about the target group, you should additionally promote your podcast exactly where it is expected. So identify the social media platforms where potential listeners are active. For example, if you’re creating a photography or fitness podcast, Instagram is probably the perfect platform for self-promotion. With Instagram’s Story feature, you can share your podcast episode and even place the link to the streaming service directly.

On the other hand, if you deal with a commercial theme, LinkedIn will be more appropriate. It may be wise to focus on only one or two platforms at first, although it is often advisable to be present on as many social networks as possible. However, you may run out of time!

Here are some tips for promoting your podcast:

  • Use meaningful episode titles, such as “How to”, “7 tips for”, “How to create a podcast?” » (to optimize the SEO of your podcast and theevergreen content.
  • Collaborations with other podcasters can increase your own reach.
  • Create a community via social networks (take into account listening wishes and reactions).
  • Produce a snackable content which unveils the main messages of the podcast episode.
  • Create your own website to appear in search engine rankings.
