L'Authcode is an essential security code for transferring a domain between two registrars (registrars). It serves as proof that the current domain holder has given explicit consent to the transfer. Without this code, it is impossible to move a domain to a new provider, thus guaranteeing the security and legitimacy of the procedure.

Auth Code: what is an authorization code and what is it for?
The authorization code, more commonly called Authcode (abbreviation ofAuthorization Code) Or AuthInfo codeacts as a domain password known only to the domain holder. It is usually between 6 and 16 characters long, combining letters and numbers.
During a domain transfer, this code acts as a proof of authorization. The new provider needs this to validate the transfer and ensure that you are the legitimate owner of the domain. This mechanism prevents any unauthorized transfer and guarantees process security.
The authorization code request represents the essential first step of any domain transfer procedure.
Advice
Most providers take care of the domain transfer for you. All you need to do is indicate the domain name, the future provider and the associated authorization code in a form. All subsequent steps are automatically initiated to complete the transfer securely.
How to get the authorization code for your domain?
Option 1: Request the authorization code from the registrar
In most cases, the hosting provider also acts as registrar of the domain. It manages the registration on your behalf while offering a suitable accommodation offer.
If this is your situation, simply request the authorization code from your current provider. This request is generally made via a dedicated form on its website. In some cases, it may be necessary to contact customer service directly.
Once the request has been validated, you will receive the AuthInfo code, automatically generated, which you must then transmit when ordering from your new domain provider.
In addition to hosting providers, there are independent domain registrars. Upon registration, you will normally have received their contact details, to use to request your authorization code.
Option 2: Request the authorization code from the registration body
If you registered your domain directly with the organization responsible for your top-level extension, the authorization code request must be sent to this registration body.
For example, for a domain in .frthis is theAFNIC (French Association for Internet Naming in Cooperation): this organization manages the registration and transfer of domains .fr and allows holders to manage them independently.
For other national domains (such as .de Or .co.uk) as well as for new generic extensions such as .shop, .music Or .pariseach extension has its own competent registration body for managing transfers and authorization codes.
How long is an authorization code valid?
The validity period of an Auth Code varies depending on the domain provider and the top-level domain in question. Generally, an authorization code remains valid up to 30 days. Some registrars voluntarily choose shorter durations in order to increase the security of the domain transfer. Once this period has expired, a new code must be requested from the current supplier before the procedure can continue.
For generic top-level domains (gTLDs), the validity period may be longer, while country domains are often subject to stricter rules.
It is therefore recommended to use the authorization code upon receipt to avoid any errors or expirations. If there is a prolonged wait, the new provider may reject the request, requiring you to generate a new code and start the procedure again. To avoid any delays, it is advisable to check the exact validity period with your registrar in advance.
