0xc0000225: to fix the boot error

Error code 0xc0000225 prevents you from starting your computer at all. The problem can often be resolved using a backup storage device or installation key. If that's not enough, the code 0xc0000225 must mean reinstalling your system.

Error code 0xc0000225: what is it?

0xc0000225 corresponds to a general error during startup. It is associated with situations in which your device no longer turns on or does not start correctly. This may be due to a bad update. Sometimes corrupted files or hardware problem can also cause error code 0xc0000225. To resolve this error, you must first determine the cause. Most of the time, one of the solutions below can save you from having to completely reinstall your operating system.

The error code 0xc0000225 can, for example, appear after a Windows update, if the process is not complete or incorrect. Often, changes to the hardware can also be the cause of the 0xc0000225 code appearing. Have you recently replaced some of your drives? This change is likely to have caused the error in question. Changes to the Windows partition or a problem with the system hard drive are also considered common causes. Perform a repair and fix error 0xc0000225

If you repair your system, in most cases error 0xc0000225 will not recur. Windows is also likely to trigger this process autonomously if several startup attempts are unsuccessful. If this does not happen, then it is necessary to create a backup storage device on another computer. In addition to this other device, have a USB key with at least 8 gigabytes of memory. Then do the following:

  1. On the new device, select the “Restore” option through the boot menu.
  2. Then click “Create Recovery Drive”.
  3. Insert the USB stick.
  4. Select this key as the destination. Warning: do not under any circumstances click on another drive, as this will then be erased.
  5. To start the process, click “Next”. The data is then copied.
  6. Once the process is complete, eject the drive and plug it into the faulty computer.
  7. Run it in BIOS so you can access its contents.
  8. Then go to the “Computer Repair Options” menu.
  9. Click on “Startup Help”; the system then corrects any possible error by itself.

Uninstall updates and fix 0xc0000225

If error code 0xc0000225 does not disappear on startup after using this method, you need to try another method. To do this, start by creating an installation key ; use it to start your device. Below you will find the procedure to follow:

  1. Start by accessing the Microsoft website and download the installation media for your operating system.
  2. Then access the official Rufus website. In the “Download” section, select the “Rufus 3.0 Portable” version. Rufus is a free tool that will allow you to create a bootable USB key.
  3. Once both downloads are complete, launch Rufus and plug in the USB stick again.
  4. Select the key, then copy the previously downloaded Windows image onto it.
  5. Wait carefully for the process to complete. Then eject the key and plug it into the faulty device.
  6. Restart its BIOS, then go to advanced options.
  7. Then click on “Uninstall updates” and “Uninstall current quality update”.
  8. When the computer restarts, it will ask you to validate this uninstallation.
  9. Then take care of uninstalling the current working update as well.
  10. Once all these updates are removed, eject the key and then restart the computer. The code 0xc0000225 should no longer appear.

0xc0000225: reinstall the system

Error code 0xc0000225 still not resolved? You must therefore reinstall your system. To do this, use the installation key again. Most of your data will be retained in this way. Unfortunately, it is only possible to reinstall programs and drivers. Find out with us how to do it:

  1. Plug the USB drive into the faulty device again, then start the BIOS.
  2. This time, from the setup menu, choose “Install Now”.
  3. You will normally be asked to enter your product key. Then simply click on “I don’t have a product key”.
  4. Choose the Windows version already present on your device and on the installation key, then confirm by clicking “Next”.
  5. Then click on “Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)”, before selecting the destination drive. So Windows creates a folder called windows.old ; this contains all your old data. Finally, the system is automatically installed again.
